Sister Gurl In Our Writing Group
She sat down at the table n the hallway
where we were meeting,
"Look at the way I'm livin'
I got to get out of this hell.
I got roaches n the cereal boxes in my kitchen.
When it's cold I ain't got money to pay for heat &
when it's hot I aint got no money for coolness.
Hog head cheese is the only thing I've got n
my refrigerator--its the only meat I've had this
month. I ain't been eatin nothin' but beans &
rice.
It's just bullshit people all around me. My man
is bs. My mama & my kids can be full of bs
sometimes. They got bs that I'm suppose to shut
up
& take. They got bs that make me have to take
an
asprin to get rid of. Lord, they got bs that it
takes me to drink a half-pint of Dimitri Vodka for me
to get
rid of it. It's because of them that I'm livin'
n da botle like the song Gil-Scott Heron use to
sing, " I'm livin' n da b-b-b-bottle."
